What is Daylight Savings?

Eheh.. since Formspring is shutting down, I'll slowly add some of the questions that I feel would be beneficial to my readers (or even myself. good for refreshing my memory). :P

This questions was answered on 15 September 2010.

Q: Soalan saya berbunyi begini: Apa maksud Daylight Saving for foreign city yg ada dlm clock setting option handphone kita tu? Memadai disablekan option ni dan enable GMT+8 untuk set time malaysia kan? ~ source link

A: ok kene tepek definition dr wiki dulu

Daylight saving time (DST; also summer time in British English—see Terminology) is the practice of advancing clocks so that afternoons have more daylight and mornings have less.

Typically clocks are adjusted forward one hour near the start of spring and are adjusted backward in autumn.

Many countries have used it since then; details vary by location and change occasionally. Although not used by most of the world's people, daylight saving time is common in high latitudes.

The practice is controversial. Adding daylight to afternoons benefits retailing, sports, and other activities that exploit sunlight after working hours, but causes problems for farming, evening entertainment and other occupations tied to the sun.

In a typical case where a one-hour shift occurs at 02:00 local time, in spring the clock jumps forward from 02:00 standard time to 03:00 DST and that day has 23 hours, whereas in autumn the clock jumps backward from 02:00 DST to 01:00 standard time, repeating that hour, and that day has 25 hours. ~ wiki source link

so basically, kite yg dok kat m'sia, tade 4 musim, so tak gune pon DST nih. just use the GMT+8 mcm bese..

ok sy try pahamkan awak jgk.. sy pon td dok tgh pahamkan mcmane nak switch.. ehehe..

sblm tu kene paham dulu beza setiap season.

SUMMER (longest days and shortest nights)
AUTUMN (early nights)
WINTER (shortest days and longest nights.)
SPRING (longer days)

on first day of autumn katelah awak dok kat ngr yg pakai DST nih, at 2.00am of 22 Sept awak pg putar balik jam analog awak 1 jam ke blkg, jdlah 1.00 am DST. padahal sebenarnye kul 2.00 am kan? bila dah gostan sejam, secara tak langsung ur day in autumn akan ade extra 1 hour.. so ade 25 hours dlm autumn season. mcm sy tulis atas td, bila autum, hari cepat gelap. so bila dah gostan sejam awal, secara tak langsung, ur daytime will be longer by 1 hour. kan?

Spring pulak.. first day of spring at 2.00 am, awak bangun dan setkan jam kedpn 1 jam, jd 3.00 am DST. so nnt ade 23 hours dlm spring season. mase spring, daytime lebih lame dr nighttime, so bila gune DST, automatic ur daytime will be less by 1 hour.

bila dah abis musim spring dan autumn, u set balik.. utk kembali ke original time..

yg setting kat awak punye hp tuh, die akan automatic gostan ke blkg atau dpn la kalo awak apply DST. sama mcm clock kat computer, same thing ade daylight savings boleh tick samada nak apply DST tp utk some countries saje.

ni ade chart bgtau start/end time utk DST..

p.s: tak semestinye kene set at 2 am. seblm tido tu set la. takut tido2 terus tak bangun plak. hahaha. :P
